Pony Mare Grading
Due to increasing demand for
competition ponies of the highest calibre, the BWBS is to open its stud
books to stallions and mares from recognised pony societies. We are
currently researching the best method for producing ponies suitable for
the demands of top competition i.e. a pony with substance, quality,
trainability, elastic paces and with an awareness of the 14h 2ins height
restriction.
The BWBS have decided to pilot a scheme currently operating on the
continent to produce Warm-Blood Ponies, but to incorporate Mares up to
15hh so that it covers the grey area between 14.2hh ponies and 15hh
horses. We therefore would like to invite owners/breeders of ponies with
recognised pony or breed society papers who wish to use BWBS graded or
BSHR graded stallions to produce BWBS ponies to attend grading within
their own class category.
Pony mare original papers must accompany their entry.
For further information please contact the Mare Grading Secretary in the
evenings after 8.30pm on 1
Westfield Avenue, Bridgend, Mid Glamorgan, CF31 4HH (Tel 01656 668199)
Why and How to Enter
The BWBS stresses that a Warm-Blood mare greatly increases her value and
that of her foals by being graded and encourages every owner of an
un-graded Warm-Blood mare to send her to Grading along with any other
eligible mares. An entry form for each category of mare accompanies
these rules. When completed, this form should be returned along with the
mare’s original papers or passport to the Mare Grading Secretary,
1 Westfield Avenue, Bridgend, Mid
Glamorgan, CF31 4HH (Tel 01656 668199) not later than 8th August 2005. Please note that the Bone,
Height and Girth measurements may be taken by the owner and the owner’s
signature is required on the entry form. The entry will be acknowledged
automatically on receipt. Please do not send the Mare Grading entries to
the Show Secretary’s address as they are dealt with by a separate
office. You may telephone the administration office on 01497 822170
between 3pm and 6pm Monday 22nd and Tuesday 23rd August 2005 for
individual and group assessment times. Once the mare has completed the
mare grading process, her official papers or passport will be stamped
with the result and returned to the owner along with a set of her marks.
This process usually takes approximately 6 weeks.
All Warm-Blood mares must be registered with the BWBS and have a WR
number before entering the Mare Grading. Please contact the Registrar,
BWBS, Goblaen House, Rhosgoch, Powys, LD2 3JT, 01497 822170 immediately
if you need to register your mare prior to entering her for grading.
Please note that for reasons of time tabling and stabling accommodation,
the total number of entries accepted for the BWBS Mare Grading and the
BSHR Mare Inspection together cannot exceed 70. It is therefore possible
that a balloting out procedure will be used, which may apply to older
mares without foals at foot, Warm-Blood mares without pure-bred
pedigrees and/or thoroughbred mares.
